How to apply
Admission procedure
The applicants for master's degree should fill in the on-line application form, available only during the application period 4 January - 26 February at https://eage.tkk.fi. The admission criteria and application dates for the academic academic year 2010-2011 will be confirmed in October 2009. Before filling in the on-line application form, please read the information provided in this section as well as in the PDF document "Application Steps" carefully. Please also read the web pages on admission as well as those on the degree programmes and master's programmes.
Additionally, there is a separate admission procedure for the Erasmus Mundus programmes.
You may apply for two (2) options; for a master's programme or a major in a degree programme. Please note that you have to list the programmes in order of preference, and the order is binding. Changes to the target programmes can be made only during the application period. If you wish to modify your target programmes after submitting your application, please contact admissions(a)tkk.fi. If your contact information changes after submitting the application, please follow the instructions on the document ‘Application Steps’.
After filling in the on-line application, you should print it out and send it to Helsinki University of Technology with all the requisite application documents. The application will be processed only if the paper application is received by TKK by the deadline; incomplete or late applications will not be processed. Please note that if you apply for two (2) options you must enclose a complete set of documents and the needed copies for both options; copies will not be taken by TKK staff. It should also be noted that only one application from each applicant will be processed. If you send more applications than one, only the most recent one will be processed.
The complete applications, including paper-format application form and all required application documents should be sent to:

Application processing at TKK
The Admission Services at TKK process all the applications and check their general eligibility, i.e. make sure that the application contains all the requisite documents and that the applicant fulfils the admission requirements. Applicants should check the Monitoring page in the online application system to see the status of their application, i.e. whether their application has arrived to TKK and if there are documents missing from it. Only the eligible applications are sent on to the programme staffs for academic assessment.
The final admission decision is made based on the academic assessment made by the programme staff. The application will be evaluated at each programme stated in the application. Admission to the programme is granted on a competitive basis - the applicants are assessed on the basis of their previous academic record and compared to each other. Only the best applicants will gain admission. The number of seats is restricted. This means that some applicants might not be admitted even if they are eligible for the programme. The programmes are not obligated to fill up all the available study places. Please see the programme web pages for programme-specific evaluation criteria.
Results of admission
All applicants whose application is processed will be informed of their admission decision via the online application system. Successful applicants will also receive a formal letter of acceptance (Rector’s decision), which will be mailed to the address specified in the online application system. The applicants are themselves responsible for keeping their contact information updated during the whole application procedure. The instructions on how to update the contact information is available in the ‘Application Steps’- document.
There is no waiting list system in the admissions to master level studies. This means that if someone does not accept the offer of admission, the study place will not be offered to an applicant who has not been accepted. You can gain admission only to one of the programmes you have applied to and you cannot change the order of preference after the application deadline.
Please note that you can accept only one offer of admission at a Finnish institution of higher education per academic year.
